Paper Hoarding...

I "suspected" I had a problem, but no more so than anyone else! Right? Wrong! This week my friend Julie stopped by and we stamped some cards to send to wounded soldiers. She just had a new craftroom "redesign" and was shocked at how much stuff she had accumulated...it was inspiring to Lois and I to clean up and clean out. I stamp in my tiny laundry room so space is tight and I've migrated to hidden corners of the house. When I got my new dryer (which I am trying to learn to use after 17 years with my old one...sniff, sniff), I thought that was the time to purge and clean up my space as well.

Here are the 8 paper stashes I came across!
My homemade 12x12 hanging folders...holds mostly Basic Grey, the old DCWV printed paper that I should just throw away, and other misc. papers that I picked up along the way on sale at the craft store.
My Soar with it Collections from The Angel Company...plus some brand new 8x8 paper packs. One of the containers holds the My Minds Eye paper from Costco...I really think it multiplies when I turn off the lights!
oops! Almost forgot about this stash of Bazzill paper hidden on my bookshelf...it matches the Soar with it Collections from TAC...
A drawer full of Bazzill monochromatic paper packs and other assorted mini paper packs I've picked up.
DCWV 12 x 12 paper packs and some retired packs from The Angel Company...
Some of the 8x8 paper packs & scraps from TAC and smaller DCWV packs...
My color coordinated scraps...all sizes because I don't throw anything away "just in case" - that is going to STOP!!
And my last and final container that I always forget to even check because it's under other things...I think I can safely just throw it away and I won't even miss it!!

If you are not to exhausted (or sickened by this point!), here's my card to share...my nephew's birthday was yesterday - I've had it made a week and just never wrote it out or mailed it. So, I whipped out the saying last night, "whoo knew?!" and on the inside it says, "this birthday wish would be so late?!" tee hee...

I love this owl set from The Angel Company...they also have Artsy Owls that are totally different in style and have amazing branches in the set! These papers actually came out of my accordian scrap file folder so I do use them!

PS. My New Year's resolution made yesterday: No new paper until I make a serious dent into all of this ... and no more saving scraps less than 2x3" !! (I keep thinking I'll make candles out of those long, skinny pieces left over - honestly!)

Blog Candy time! Leave me your paper storage tips by Sunday, 10 Jan (midnight) and I will draw a winner for two 8x8 paper packs from The Angel Company. :)

your post has motivated me. i'm a bit of a paper whore myself! i have a beautiful cart, just like yours, with my home-made 12x12 folders that hold all my SU paper... and my scrapbooking 12x12 (which i haven't used in YEARS!). but then, i started thinking of the other places i've tucked paper... i'm cleaning my space out this weekend!

OMG! I am a paper hoarder too! We probably need to start a support group! And don't throw away your DCWV!! Tell me what colors you have and I will buy it from you! :) All I need is more paper right? My storage solution....cropper hoppers! Can't live without them!

How funny that you posted this! Last night I was starting to go through my stuff to try and purge some unused products! I've got one big box so far... but I haven't started on my paper yet... it frightens me ;)
And I am a Cropper Hopper girl, too!

I use those old fashioned plastic things that you can stack on top of each other for the 8 1/2 x 11 and for the 12 x 12 I use a storage system by Memory Makers, I think. It sits on top of my desk and has inserts to label the paper collection. Well, I took the insert out, filled them up, then use the "base" to keep more paper. Guess I better get using my paper up before I buy any more!

my most "handy" thing that i do as far as paper storage is i have a small basket set out that i put scraps in. when it gets full the scraps get filed with like colors in a binder or expandable file thingy OR it gets tossed. (the tossing part i need to do more of, cause my files are getting stuffed!)

I store my paper horizontally - but I'm thinking of switching to vertical. I have more space going up in my scrap space. :D More space = more paper. Woot!

I have some of those magazine storage boxes that I picked up at IKEA for my letter size papers and cardstock, and hanging folders in a file cabinet for my 12x12 stuff. my scrap are color sorted (a tip I learned from you) in ziplock bags and hanging on my Clip It Up.

Frankly my dear, I don't see what the problem is, teehee. We HAVE to have paper!

I store mine in white 12x12 drawers, standing upright so I can finger threw it easily. I collected my drawers from Joann's and bought them one at a time with 40% off coupons and now I"m up to 8 of them. (I've been collecting for a LONG time) I store, page kits in there as well. Some day I'm gonna get those planned layout done. 2 drawers are organized by topic ie.. Christmas, Fall, Spring, Children, etc. 2 1/2 are organized by color with mostly cardstock but also with colored pp. 1 is organized by Style, casual, geometric, florals, elegant, etc. And then I have some grouped together becuase they are a set. I have my small pads lined up in photo boxes right beside my work area, since I mostly do cards right now, ie. DCWV, Basic Grey, K&Company. I store TAC in it's own drawer. I hope that helps!

WOW, that's a lot of paper lol. I'm still fairly new to this so all my paper usually goes into one plastic box that has wheels on it! I also use a plate rack to store paper that I use often so I can quickly grab whatever I need. Great work on the card as well. The owl is way too cute. Keep up the great work and thanks for doing this fun giveaway =)

I have no suggestions. : (
Can't wait to see Julie's new room and your solution when you get one.
My supplies are a jumble because the girls use them more than me right now!

I honestly don't have a lot of paper! Gasp! Right? But what I do have is a HUGE scrap paper problem! I have some solid color cardstock, a few patterned loose sheets of paper all organized by color: Pink, Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Purple, Black, Brown/Tan, White, Ivory, Vellum, each in their own drawer. The drawers are all stacked on top of each other. I have a few slabs of paper and my TAC papers on a shelf in my armoire that I use for my paper crafting. My goal this year is to USE UP THE SCRAPS!!! Good luck on finding a solution that works best for you!

Bridgett

Chris, what an adorable owl card!

I have one shelf for paper storage in my craft closet. I separate each color family into 12x12 folders that are acid free and have fold-over closures. (These are pretty cheap from Michael's.) Those folders stand vertically on the shelf so I can easily flip through them for the color family I need.

I have one drawer at my craft desk where I sweep scraps at the end of a project. I try to use scraps first before cutting into a new sheet of paper, especially when using punches or stamping items that will be colored and cut out. Periodically, I'll clean out the drawer and start over. If the scrap is larger than the drawer (about 7 inches long), then it goes back into it's color-family folder in the craft closet.

The Paper Trey ink blog featured this topic this week, and their Design Team had some great ideas to share, as well.

Good luck finding a system that works well for you, and happy 2010!
